Shri Ajay Kumar Jain, Member (Legal), DERC
Shri Ajay Kumar Jain is a Retired District Judge and presently serves as Member (Legal), Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). He assumed charge as Member (Legal) of the Commission with effect from 14th September 2026.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in B.Sc (H) Physics, awarded in 1986, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.), awarded in 1990, and a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M.), awarded in 2022.
He was appointed as an Additional District & Sessions Judge through Direct Recruitment in July 2009. During his service, he served in various positions, including District Judge (Commercial Court), Special Judge, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), Additional Sessions Judge, Special Judge, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Presiding Officer (MACT).
During his 17 years of judicial service in the Delhi Higher Judicial Service (DHJS), he adjudicated matters across a wide range of legal domains, including civil, criminal, commercial, corruption, CBI, NDPS, MACT and arbitration matters. He has presided over several significant and complex cases, including major corruption trials such as the Commonwealth Games (CWG) Scam, complex NDPS matters, commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings. He is recognized for his integrity, analytical reasoning, effective case management and balanced approach to adjudication.
